The Week

It was an eventful week.
Not that i didn't want to blog earlier but physically, it was impossible.
Tired leh.

Monday, the photoshop creative class at BTC.
Arrived uber late from work and only played a fool with the rest of the 'classmates' in the midst of the lesson.
Bonny was never naughty in class, i cross my heart.
But a serious class after a hard day's work was no joke.
That explained why i slept through 3/4 of my uni days. Oops.

Tuesday, movie number one - I Love You, Man.
It was h.y.s.t.e.r.i.c.a.l.
Simple plot with an atypical yet real story. Complex.
But for just its humour, it's worth the $8.50.
Wil entered the theatre with zero knowledge of the film and i think he's a bit skeptical even. But he came out, thumbs-up!

Wednesday, movie number two - Duplicity.
I think Cathay made a mistake by setting its genre as "comedy" and i was conned thoroughly.
I was hoping that the love affair of the spies-turned-corporate operatives would be witty enough, even if it's not the hilarious kind.
Unfortunately, it was far from a comedy.
Not even an action-packed, perhaps...hmm..i don't know. Ahh know i see the problem of the classifier.
Bengz and i took turns to snooze (unconsciously) at the long draggy front part but thank God the pace was picked up towards the end.
Seriously for such storyline, i would expect the plot to be a bit cleverer.

Thursday, ex-colleagues day!
Met dearie Celyn for lunch and boy, i missed her so much.
The one hour lunch date was totally insufficient and we've agreed to have another session next week!
In the evening, met the CBT group and we had a terrific time reminiscing the days when we were working in the travel agency.
It's so funny to realise how the same tour guide, at the same destination, could result into two significantly different tour-leading experiences.
It was nice catching up.

Not forgetting this sweet little surprise which i received in office one morning.
Hidden under my laptop cover was this black classy box which got me really excited.
I knew it was my uber belated birthday gift which i've been chasing for the longest time. Hah.
But i really didn't know what to expect.
It was after i mentioned that i was searching for a pretty hair accessory for the upcoming weddings, and i got this.
Very pretty isn't it? =)

Happy Mummy's Day

When i realised i had only one free weekend in the month of May, i quickly recalled the things that i've put on hold for the longest time.
We have agreed and planned for dinner at my place way in advance but when the Easter production and other events came along, we just had to postpone the gathering for a while.
In view of the constant reminders from Tecky on how he missed Mummy's braised pig trotters and that Mdm Toh's delivery date is round the corner, i had to put this on my top priority.
With one week's notice, Mummy planned the menu, did the marketing and whipped up a feast for my dear friends!
Seriously, other than being uber hospitalble (somtimes even more than her daughter), i think Mummy is a great cook!
She never fail to delight my friends with her cooking. It's hard work man.
Hence only reserved for the priviledged! Hah.
Today is Mother's Day and i wanted to cook buy her a nice dinner.
But she has deserted me to go singing with her friends. K lah...as long as she's happy, i'm happy.
Before she left, my dinner was nice and hot, ready in the kitchen. Awww...

I stood in the congregation today and boy...i miss worshiping so much!!!
Ever since i had to park myself at the back of the auditorium three months ago, i somehow could only make sure that, others, can have a proper worship.
Keeping a watch at the ushers, making sure that the latecomers are not blocking the projectors and they each can have a seat - are the things i've to manage, as i drift in and out of worship.
We took a moment to show our appreciation to the mothers at service today.
Presenting flowers to them and P. Tiak led the congregation to pray over for them too.
Then i made an observation.
I realised the median age of the mothers in Brighton is getting younger!
Most of them are actually my peers! Wow...
Or the problem lies with me? Oops... =p

Happened to come across the old song by my old time favourite singer
Touched my heart to the max.

The strange thing about blogging is that if the momentum is lost, it's difficult to get back again.
There were many times when i was overwhelmed by thoug
hts but all i could do was to stare blankly at the blinking cursor.
I guess my ability of translating thoughts into words has deteriorated a bit. Sigh.

Anyway.

Almost immediately after the drama production, i hopped on the ferry and arrived at the familiar Nirwana Resort at Bintan island.

I was glad that i chose to depart on late Easter Sunday when most holidaymakers would have returned.

The resort wasn't totally quiet but at least i didn't feel as i
f i was at East Coast or Sentosa chalet.
To see the pool crowded with Caucasians did add on to the mood of holiday. K that's me. Anyway, i've gone and i'm now back. Not totally rested but better than none.
On my way home, i started thinking...Australia or Hong Kong??? Hmmm...

There wasn't CG yesterday and for a moment, i was lost. Didn't quite know what to do with a sudden break from the routine.
Then i remembered that Jac and i have been planning for a karaoke session for the longest time.

Albeit the claustropho
bic room we were placed in where we could hardly stretch our legs, i had fun with this new friend. =)
Ended the night with supper at the noisy Hong Kong Cafe, understanding each other better and realising much of our similarities and differences.

In the midst of all these, i wonder how were the rest doing?

Feeling a little down today and the reason is not obvious.

It could be the remnants of the office politics or it could be just weariness or....

I'm just hoping for this to past.

All about Life

With the appointment of our new CE, the Board just had its major restructuring after the last one six year ago.
In a re-org, people will bound to be affected, whether positively or otherwise.
Most of the time, otherwise conquers the bigger fraction.
As much as i believe that my department is a 'safe' one, we didn't escape the consequence of the re-org.
The conclusion is that one of us is sacrificed.
Thankfully, not a retrenchment, but a mandatory transfer to another division.
F was the unfortunate one and i almost had the same fate as her as my name was mentioned too.
When LL broke the news to me reluctantly, i was pretty worked up but i managed to press it down.
I was more frustrated and disappointed with the decisions of the management than feeling relieved that i wasn't the one being transferred.
The whole thing was pure stupidity and uncompassionate.
Well, i shan't bore you with the details. Not worth my effort too.
As i was venting my frustration to Bengz, he had to remind me not less than six times that at the minimum, i'm blessed with a paycheck every month so that my standard of living need not be compromised.
Sounds bimbotic and i wouldn't deny a bit. =p
Therefore, i made it a point to give thanks every morning and it definitely make my day a lil better.
In any case, i decided not to be bothered by my job after working hours.
Life is not just about work alright!
I guess it'll just be a bill-paying-tool, at least for now. Before i find my passion and inspiration again.

Received a surprise call from Korea on Valentine's Day!
How not to love Jer??? =)
In Korea, the culture is for girls to give gifts and guys are the recipients.
He thought he would have the priviledge too, with a Korean girlfriend and living in Korea.
Unfortunately, she overruled the idea with the justification that her boyfriend is "international".
Hahaha...try harder, Jer.
Anyway, Jer really made my day with that distant Valentine's wishes and he hopes that he can save a call next year.
MmmMmmm........SO! I was saying......
This pic was taken during Jer's homecoming this CNY and that's my new Korean friend. =)
She's such a sweet girl. I like her. =)
Uber looking forward to their wedding.

Didn't quite catch the serial when it was showing on Channel U. Not even its repeat telecast.
But the couple of times when i managed to watch, i loved it!
Besides the interesting surgeries for the purpose of beautifying oneself, 《一切完美》 portrays the deep being of human nature and behaviour.
It talks about loving ourselves, forgiveness and of course the reality of the world.
Instead of the usual fairy-tale kind of story lines, i like the fact that it slaps people with the truth and acts as a wake-up call.
I often ended up in tears at the end of each episode. Sounds dumb, i know.
I'm trying to complete part 1 online, while getting ready to welcome part 2 of the series.

Did i mention that i was completely swooned by the charm of Thomas Ong?

Gosh...he has the face that i like! *hurhur*

Monday Movie

The approach of the lunar new year holidays indeed has helped people at work loosen up a bit.
At least i'm hearing conversations out of the formal work context and it includes the making of pineapple tarts and love letters.
With the commencement of the corporate planning exercise (it's NOT the organisation doing Singapore Workout as suggested by Persi), it kept a lot of people away from their desk, including LL.
And since the UAT has to go on even when she's not around, i had my very first meeting with the vendors ALONE.
It didn't dawn much on me at that moment as the meeting was called for in an impromptu manner.
I only laughed at my behaviour after the meeting as i reflected.
Subconsciously, i realised i was actually feeling a lil intimidated by my minimal IT knowledge and afraid that i would ask dumb questions in which might turn out to be a joke.
Hence during the meeting with the IT guys, in the midst of trying my very best to understand the technical terms they were throwing around and the scenarios they were illustrating, i turned the table around and confused them a lil. Haha.
I secretly heaved a sigh of relief when they paused and pondered and concluded with a "we'll check" after i rattled a chain of comments.
I almost got choked by the smoke. =p
As you can see, i wasn't quite bothered if i've convinced them or confused them as long as i get away.
I can imagine more of such situations happening in the near future, i think i better buck up.

Caught "Rachel Getting Married" with Ivana in the evening. It talks about a girl, Kym, who returned to her family from the rehabiliation centre, for the wedding of her sister (Rachel), bringing along with an unhealed and unresolved heart.
And...........................yah that's about it!
Well, yeah....it has a unique and atypical cinematography and insipiring theme but i thought they could work a bit more on the story development.
I was kept awake as i was eager to find out "what's next" but it never happened.
Disappointingly, the movie ended in a "that's it???!!!" note and five of the patrons didn't even sit through to see that.

I would very much prefer the factual "Australia" and 《赤壁之决战天下》.

I fell in love with the ingenious 孔明 and was reminded on the beauty of the Chinese language.
Now i really regretted for falling asleep in my higher chinese class at college.
Would a kind soul give me a quick tutorial of 《三国演义》 please?
Oh just one thing...i thought it was just a lil awkward with the existence of a taiwanese-accented character in the history of China. For goodness sake, please dub 张震's voice. =p

Classic Great Hitz Part II

I posted the videos onto Facebook and surprisingly, it was a good old great hit for some.

Hence i decided to continue explore more of 陈百强's works.
As i was reading up on him, i found this!

I almost forgot about this!

First came across this song during the madly-in-love-with-Daniel-Chan time, as well as Gigi Leung.
Both were featured in the movie 《初恋无限touch》 and Gigi sang this.

I remembered owning two of the vcds just because they have different covers and i watch not less than 25 times.
I could almost memorize the lines at each scene.
Perhaps i should bring it out to watch again. Heh.

Shall continue my CGH search!

Occasionally, Jer will take me by surprise when he started displaying his ah pek homesick phenomena.
He showed me this.

Not long later, i discovered this under the "related videos" column and i was THRILLED!

I couldn't remember how i was introduced to this song, not through the movie of course. It definitely left a uber deep impression in me.
Interestingly, i also learned that the scene where 许文强 was killed (at 3.35) was ever awarded the Best Gunshot Scene.
Jer said he was mesmerized by how slowly Chow Yun Fatt took to collapse after being shot.
Speechless.

Then there was another one!

I first heard this song when i was deeply in love with 陈晓东 during my youth days.
He sang it at one of his concert and i love it instantly.

I like 陈百强. If only he is still alive.

I am the Dancing Queen!!!

Monday, Persi and i spent our Bonapers on Mammia Mia!
Since Hairspray, i've grown a fondness for musicals.
I like the exaggerated facial expressions and the expression of emotions through music and lyrics.
Most people know that i love to sing but the desire of acting and dancing has always been a secret. Oops...now you know! =p
Albeit the slim chance, I hope to be able to persuade Ken to do a musical for the next D&D.
I shall beef up the publicity for Music in Motion and hopefully can lure attract more people.
Anyway, the movie. I was enjoying so much that i wasn't quite bothered about the rest of the audiences and sang along with Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.
Hmmm...Pierce Brosnan was unarguably suave but his singing was...err...put it this way...i thought he was talking. =p
I fell in love with ABBA songs instantly and i regretted for being ignorant to them for the longest time.
My favourite was Dancing Queen and i love the scene when all the women were dancing on the deck.
I couldn't control my shoulders from bopping along with the groove. Ooooo..oooo...oooo...

Persi and i left the cinema, still not getting enough of the songs and dreamt to having a wedding like the one in the movie. It's gonna be so fun! If only the guests are as fun too.
But first, we need to get a man, each. Hah.

The air in office has been pretty still lately.

LL wasn't at her best of mood and somehow, it got us a lil tensed.
On an usual day, she would be rather bubbly and her hobby at work was to engage us in small talks. Not the case since last week though.
She must be stressed with the papers for the meetings and we hope we could offload her a bit. Not as simple as we thought.
Just before i left office yesterday, she managed to talk a bit on her experience at the F1 race which i thought it was a breakthrough for the week.
Hopefully she'll loosen up a bit more for the later half of the week.
It's not the best of news when your boss is moody you know. =p

Made a trip down to Replugged after work yesterday.
It was three years ago when i frequented this shop house at Bugis Village almost every week.
Not a bit has changed. Just that the back room was transformed into a training room.
Bengz wanted to pick up an instrument and i proposed the keyboard initially.
But later we realised a problem (which i shan't divulge for the interest of the involved party) and he had to make a switch.
As we explored, we thought flute might be suitable and it got him so excited after hearing the demo online. He wished he could sign up almost immediately.
Therefore we headed down to Replugged hoping that he could try on the instrument otherwise sign up for a class.
However, things didn't quite work out and we left the school in disapointment. Oh well, at least we knew the place where he could purchase a flute in the mean time. If you are keen, visit Eason Enterprise.

We ended up at PP (again) and dinner was at Mini Steamboat (again).
Not long after we settled at Mcdee for the night, the monsoon storm rain came and almost got the both of us drenched as we insisted on staying put at the outdoor seats.
It was so cold that my lips trembled as i spoke.
The weather is turning cold i guess. Yay!
When we got comfortable with the weather, a weird indian ah-pek had to choose the seat next to us to rest himself.
He was behaving very strangely and had a huge travel bag with him which got me suspicious of its content. Smiling to himself and throwing occasional stares at us too.
We were constantly keeping a lookout as we talked, in case he barge.

Later then we realised that he was waiting to hit on the leftover food on the tables after the patrons left. And so, he ended up hopping from table to table.
Quite a tragic sight though.

When we got used to the the indian ah-pek, a chinese ah-pek, who was sitting in front of us, started to scatch his head so vigorously that i could almost see tiny stuff flying out. Ewwwwww...I felt itchy all over too.
And our eyes turned to this man again.
What an eventful and multi-tasking night.

With the previous night that ended at 3am, i could only regain consciousness at noon today.
I was a little shocked when i woke up. Didn't expect to have slept for so long. Scary.
And for the rest of the day, i did almost nothing.
The most constructive thing i've done was to revamp my blog.

Nice??? I love it! So sweet hor.
Other than that, if you consider the 1-hour nap constructive? Heh.

Work tomorrow. Good night.

Welcome to my World

Academic Misery - Day 16 [ISORG] + Gong Gong

I hate to talk about the ISORG paper today.
I thought it's crap. I meant ME.
Only two words to describe - 假强, commonly known as gei kiang.
Guess i was too complacent and probably too hong sim [can't think of a more appropriate word].
And now, sigh...
I is so STUPID! =(

In any case, i shan't dwell in my stupidity for too long.
One more paper to go and i'll be a free bird beth!

Later in the evening, i met up with Persi to watch Made of Honour.

It left both of us pondering on the existence of platonic friendships.
We held differing views. She doubted and i thought it's possible.
I was like her previously but in recent years, i kinda treasure buddy-buddy relationships, which explains why sometimes, i'm more comfortable with guys.
I don't have to pretend to be as soft and gentle as the girls coz i'm not like any of them and most importantly, i just can't stand petty clashes.
Often i suspect i'm a man deep within.
Anyway, i give a 7/10 for the movie. Quite hilarious at some parts.

After the movie, we made a impromptu visit to Mustafa, with compliments from Uncle Chua!
It has been the longest time since i wanted to get a personal suitcase and was told that i could get a good variety at Mustafa.
No joke at all!
The army of suitcases were packed like sardines and it was quite an effort to go through all of them.
Finally found a suitable one and i was pretty pleased with my purchase.
Being my maiden trip to the mall, i was simply amazed by the range of products they are offering.
From apparels to electronic gadgets to fishing rods and not forgetting the interesting talking toy parrot and the irritating evilly-laughing witch. Fwah!!!
It also left Persi smiling gleefully with her good catch of the handheld blender.
I shall anticipate the day that i can taste Persi's Pumpkin Soup!
______________________________________________________________________

After service on Sunday, i received a text message from BB.
"Gong Gong was warded into the hospital ten days ago and is currently in critical condition."
For a moment, i didn't know how to respond.
I tried asking for some details but obviously BB was completely clueless.

Later in the afternoon when i was napping, Mummy woke me up and told me to call Aunty Elaine right away.
She was crying when the line got through.
"Gong gong cannot make it already. Can you go to the hospital to see him perhaps for the last time?"
I got the details and hung up and was left in a daze.
To be frank, i really didn't feel much.
The last time i saw Gong Gong was more than 10 years ago.
I was just uneasy that the fact that i have to face the relatives again.
Not that we have sour relationships but it's just...awkward.
If you know what i mean.

I got to NUH close to midnight and fortunately, the nurses on duty allowed me into the ICU ward.
Aunty Elaine introduced me as the "long lost grandchild" to the nurse and i thought it sounded strange.
He was still unconscious but i thought he could sense that i was there.
He had tubes and ventilators all over him and he looked petite.
Aunty Elaine said when he was semi-conscious earlier, he had specifically requested to see me so that was why she contacted me.
I was taken aback by this remark coz i didn't think he would remember me.
Something was stirring up deep within and the memories started coming back.
The times when i used to visit him at Pontian, Malaysia when i was a kid.
That was the Gong Gong whom used to carry me and now he was bedridden right before my eyes.

Aunty Elaine told me later that he was robbed in JB 4 weeks ago and was pushed into the drain and injured his leg with an open wound.
In a morning 3 weeks later, the neighbours didn't see him in his bike one morning [he was that strong and healthy] and sensed something amissed.
They got into his house [he's staying alone] and found him unconscious.
They sent him to the hospital and contacted Aunty Elaine whom tranferred him out to seek treatment in Singapore immediately.
The reports of the tests done on him were all negative of any major findings and he was pretty well and chatty during the week's stay.
However on the night of last Saturday, he went into a coma all of a sudden and some organs started to fail.
The doctor informed us to be mentally prepared for the worst.

Aunty Elaine said that Gong Gong has got a strong willpower and he was fighting hard.
I could see/sense that too when i saw him.
I didn't think he would go.
We prayed with Aunty Elaine [a Christian] and Cousin Grace [her daughter] before we left the hospital.

I tried studying when i got home at about 2ish after midnight but i just couldn't concentrate.
Emotionally very drained.
I couldn't sleep that night.
Praying hard and crying out to God for help.
I really didn't want Gong Gong to die.

Next morning, BB texted me.
BB: "Ey you all prayed for Gong Gong last night huh?"
Bonny: "We didn't pray in his ward but outside. Why?"
BB: "Coz he woke up after y'all left. =)"

Thank God! It was a huge relief.
Later i heard from Aunty Elaine that he will be transferred to a normal ward the next day if everything goes well.
Was that a miracle or what? I don't know.
But i'm sure God made it happen. =)
