乖乖 OK?

I realised the older i am, the lower is my tolerance towards misbehaving *kids in the public.
[*kids = teenagers within the age of 13 - 19]

On my bus journey home from school last night, my usual peaceful ride was seriously interrupted by a bunch of 4 kids (3 boys and 1 girl).
Seated on opposite sides, they began to talk loudly, laugh loudly, push here, kick there.
On the reflection of the misty window, i saw the "mastermind". It's her.
She would intentionally push the guy seated next to her, raised her leg high high and tried to kick the guy opposite her and whatever the guys said, she would laugh at a suprano pitch.
As though she swallowed some laughing pills, she just couldn't stop.
Based on my rich experience of "laughing", it was a laughter released from her vocal chord and not diaphragm. Err..nehmind... what i'm trying to say is....it's fake la.
She is one whom i will label as AS (attention-seeker).
Often i will relate seeking attention to misbehaving. It has a causal linkage somehow.
I can be highly irritated by kids misbehaving in public as i feel they are only disgracing themselves to attain the so-called attention they need.

[since they yearn for so much attention...]

I guess my perception derived when i was a kid myself.
I was a prefect in secondary school and my primary duty was to "maintain law and order" especially in the aspect of the students' discipline.
As a responsible and upright person (ahem), i put in my best effort to uphold the justice in school.
Wa sei..... 厉害 hor?
I think i was just kapo la. =p

Boy...i was fierce.
There were many occassions where i confronted the pai kias face-to-face for their improper attitude and behaviour.
And often ended up that his 兄弟 had to hold him back before he whacked me. =p
Sometimes, the pai kias would also conspire against me. They would gei gei crowd together within my sight and whisper and glare at me at the same time.
想吓我? 们儿都没有!

K la k la... i felt a lil threatened. Just a little.
But at least i didn't 穿帮 ok! =p
My mom even advised me to beware that they might trail me home one day.
Afterall, they didn't action.

All they were fond of doing was to give me all sort of "names", from plants to animals.
They would shout (with echo) across the hall during school assemblies to "welcome" my arrival. Yes....in the presence of the teachers and other students.
But i was cool and steady. =p
What for 跟他们一般见识?
Then they became creative.
They wrote a "love" letter attentioned to me, to Teenage Magazine which was then published under the message column at one of the last few pages.

They even ga-ga signed off with one of their actual names.
Sure they knew which channel to use to reach their "target market".
Even my primary school friend called me up after so long, just to verify that it was me.
Thanks leh.

Anw...

Since then, i totally cannot give my consent to misbehaving and attention-seeking kids.
Did i mention they were link?
*scroll up*
Oh yes i did.
Yeah you get me...

I even delievered a speech on Juvenile Delinquency for the oratorical competition i participated in Sec 2. Hehe...
Perhaps that's why i am inspired to join the police force. =p

2-hour Adventure

Recently i've been checking out the 3 big players to pin down the most reasonable deal for a broadband plan.
Yes i admit. I am an antique. I am still using the vintage dial-up connection at home.
I had been loyal to Pacnet eversince i signed up the Tertiary plan with them in poly days.
It was one of the best plans in town...err....7 years ago. (wow...really long hor.)
Prior 2 months back, i was still trying to convince myself that the plan was good.
But...怎么说 dial-up 就是 dial-up. 可以快到哪里去?
Perhaps i was over-pampered by the LAN connection in office, the moments of seeing the green strip moving cube by cube at the right-bottom of my home monitor, can really get onto my nerves.

Today, I happened to chance upon Singnet site and saw their promo.
Hwa....good leh.... $43/mth for a speed of 1500kps.
Cheapest i found so far.
I happy so decided to 当机立断.
Immediately after work, i flew down to the Hello shop @ Cairnhill which is nearest to my office.
I happy happy take bus and when i was about to alight at Heeren...WHAT!!!
I hurried down the bus and 三步当两步 brisk-walked to the shop.
The banner above the shop is still red leh. But.....the supposed S-I-N-G-T-E-L became H-S-B-C!!
Oh dear... i couldn't believe it.
This really reflected how hermit i was for the past month.
I literally stared at the building in dispair for the next 30 sec.
When i finally regained my consciousness, i knew i had to move on.
东家不买, 买西家! I took another bus and went straight to Bugis Junction.

On the bus, i was musing on my favourite brands in Seiyu and my favourite strawberry shortcake.
I happy again. =)
Alighted, crossed the road...
"Ey...why Seiyu so dark???"
"Oh maybe blackout for a while la."
I hoped.
The nearer i drew, i more uneasy i became.
The store resembled a dead town.
我死都不罢休, purposely went to the main entrance and there, i saw a red paper glued on the glass door.
WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR OUR ANNUAL DINNER & DANCE TONIGHT. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.
I really sian 一大半. =(

I dragged myself to the Singtel shop.
Mentally, i was calculating the loss they would incurr for not operating for 1 night.
I thought maybe Singtel would aggravate the situation a lil more by telling me they don't handle internet services in this branch.
Thank God they didn't.

I got my registration done and happily went ahead with my shopping.
Halfway, my mobile rang...
"小姐, 你忘了拿你的 IC!"
I dashed back to the shop and picked up my IC.
I've NEVER forgotten my IC in any circumstances before lor!!
I thought i better get home asap.
I guess i just couldn't adapt to the outside world after being a hermit for so long. =p

Nevertheless, i'm glad i got the strawberry shortcake from my favourite store and a pair of earrings before i left the mall.
还好没有空手而归喔! 不然一定槌!!

嘻嘻....=p

忙里偷闲

Last Thursday, Persi and i went for massage at Subtle Senses, located along Mosque Street.
It occupied a space of 2 shophouses and could feel an instant sense of serenity as we entered.
It has a long reception with at least 5 - 6 formally dressed staff behind the counter.
After deciding on the type of massage, then came our masseurs.

Mine was a petite, middle-aged lady. She looked stern but experienced.
I wondered if she was strong though.
We changed into their slippers and followed the masseurs into our rooms respectively.
Then my misery started.

Every pressure that she exerted was a torture. To me.
She said the pain was caused by my blocked blood vessels. Serious hor?
It's so excructiating that i could hardly breathe and could imagine the twisted expression on my face, only seen by the carpeted floor.
So i forced myself to sleep.
However, the aunty kept yakking away. Whichever body part she came to, she would say it's no good. Here blocked there blocked. Here got toxic there got toxic.
I gave up digesting any more info about my body.
I intentionally took leave to come here and relax lor.
Not to be nagged!

Anw...

After the massage, Persi and i were served camomile tea and before us sat the consultant.
I've anticipated this to come.
She went through thoroughly the packages they are offering and bla bla bla...
I just focused on my tea.
She ended her "speech" by quoting a figure on the paper she was scribbling.
It's a nice 4-digit.
I peeped into Persi's cup to make sure she had finished her tea.
"We'll think about it"
Then we paid for that day's session and left.
Hee....

We headed down to a dessert store which we came across earlier.
It resembled those 糖水铺 in Hong Kong.
I like.

Persi had 炖奶.
I don't take 奶 so i took 花生糊.
Delicious!!!

Then we proceeded to Plaza Sing to meet our lil brother Philip for dinner.
He looked sian, in his soon-be-shaved wavy hair.
I could understand.
Most guys wouldn't be cheery the night before going into army.
He came with his last minute shopping at Carrefour and with a faint smile, he said hi.

Dinner was at Thai Express and i think he enjoyed it.
He groaned repetitively that it would be his last nice meal.
So i think he really finds it nice la. Heh.

Then Caleb purposely came to pass me the MD player.
I needed it for recording my lecture which i would miss in order to attend my membership class [will blog about this later].
Thank you so much Kiong Zai!
He treated us to Gelare somemore wor.
Philip repeated his "it would be his last nice meal" thingy again. Haiyo...
He even painted "scenarios" which he had anticipated to happen in camp and the way he is going to react respectively if they really happen.
Hahaha...你是不是想太多了!

Before we went home, we dropped by Best Denki to get empty MD and Philip wanted to get a mini torchlight so that he can read bible in the night after lights-off.
He was mesmerised by a series of Jay Chou's mtv that was played on a $4000 flat-screen tv on display.
Persi and i wondered far far away from him but he was too highly engrossed that he didn't realised.
We had to pull him away ultimately.
He's such a lil boy.

I'm looking forward to this lil brother transforming into a big boy.
And his botak head!

~ Take care brother!

Time is running out

Four weeks of weekend classes were finally over.
I am drained.
By the time i stepped into my room, i just couldn't find a tiny strength to do anything.
ZzzzZzzz...

After my class today, i decided to pop down to J8 and stretch a bit.
2nd floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor again...
Final stop is the supermarket. Always.
I picked up the groceries that i needed and as i was making my way to the cashier, i heard this conversation.

A lady was saying to a boy (whom i believe is her son) who's holding on to the trolley:
> Do you know that you are blocking the way, ASSHOLE!
Then a girl (whom i believe is her daughter) holding on to a pack of chocolates, asked this lady:
> Can i get this?
She replied:
> You think you are not fat enough is it?

In a split 2 sec, this mother had verbally abused 2 innocent kids.
Today, these kids had new vocabulary and adjectives added on to their dictionary of abusive words.
Today onwards, they will think it's perfectly okay to name people ASSHOLE and to humiliate them in public.

I went away feeling lousy. For the kids and the mother.

I wonder, what was on the mind of this mother? What exactly was she trying to achieve?
Could it be a form of revenge? Did she undergo a similar treatment when she was young?
She spoke okay English, so i assumed she had at least received a minimum education.
She could have had a bad childhood but didn't the education she received try to rectify it in some way?
With all these assumptions, i think she is poor thing.
She had been deeply wounded and far from recovery.

I don't think the kids enjoy being put-down before so many strangers.
But i guess, overtime, they will be numbed, i.e. damage had been done.
They may even take on the model of their mother.
And the vicious cycle goes on...

Being an oversized kid, i wasn't spared from embarrassment by my parents too.
I HATE Chinese New Year visits or any extended family gatherings.
It seemed that there weren't anymore interesting topics to gossip about so they conveniently picked a naive child as the target.

From my face to my double-chin to my stomach to my thighs...................................
Not a cent's worth (一文不值).
I was angry and would always put up a 臭脸 or even sob secretly.
I couldn't comprehend what amusement can the adults achieve from putting me down.
To an extend, i lost my feeling.
你们讲我肥是吗? 我就偏偏吃给你们看!
The consequence....haizz...

Later i realised that my parents' behaviour was actually a way of entertaining my relatives. Yah right...in the expense of their child.
Thank God i didn't grow in hatred.

Afterall, He was the one who lifted me from the miry clay.

I pray that God will also bring salvation to that family.
When i see them, i know time is running out.

终于来到这里

We arrived at the bungalow at 4.30pm.
My task ended after i placed the bags of groceries at the kitchen.
Yoohoo!!!

Play game play game!!
Gestures!
Our CG's favourite and most 了不起 game!
Other than the usual players like we had James and P.Tiak with us.
Yes...P.Tiak!!! Our church's pastor.
He was very sporting but a bit 放不开 la.
I believed he enjoyed himself.
James was genius.
He literally captured the 精髓 of Gestures.
真人不露相 man.

Approximately 6pm, P.Tiak's 3 lovely children capered into the house, together with their mummy.
The game came to a halt after the commotion.
We roped in the eldest of the 3 into the game by asking him to act on some words.
All: Unicorn!
He: Correct! Next!
All: Bite!
He: Correct! Next!
All: Dracula!
He: Correct!
All: Yay!
He: Let's play again!
All: Ok!
He "selected" the cards again.
He: Start!
All: Unicorn!
He: Correct! Next!
All: Bite??
He: Correct! Next!
All: err... Dracula???
He: Correct! Again!
And the above continued for another 2 rounds. Unchanged.
Well, at least he knows where his competency lies.
So cute.

By now, the girls were already lazing in the room upstairs.
But the guys were sweating out in the kitchen.
哈哈!!! 风水轮流转!
We sent a rep to constantly peep into the kitchen just to make sure they won't start dinner without us.
Hahaha!!!

Dinner finally commenced at 8.30pm.
K la, don't say neh help. We'll lay the tables.
It was another feast again.
The guys were marvellous!
We (girls) felt so pampered.
I think to see guys cooking in the kitchen is such a heart-warming affair.
It's the ONLY instance where i don't mind to be dominated by their chauvinism.

Oh ya!! We had the honour of having Aaron with us for the night.
He is our missionary commisioned to the land of Chiangmai as well as our CG member.
Reaching out to the Thais and eventually bring them closer to Christ is his mission and our mission.
He returned for a 1-week vacation break, together with his wife -
Grace.

**************************************************************
At 9 o'clock, the main agenda of the night began.
Started by worshipping and singing praises to the Lord.
Giving Him thanks for bringing us thus far.
I'm sure He heard our deafening voices.
The Holy Spirit filled each of us.
Beautiful.

Afterwhich we settled down comfortably in a circle, making sure that all of us were within one another's sight.
Started off with Aaron updating us on his missionary work in Chiangmai and shared about his life there.
Afterwhich we covered both Aaron and Grace with prayers of assurance and protection before they left to prepare for the flight early next morning.

Okay...finally it's the moment.

-Lights off-

Persi played the video montage which she "directed".
All of us were the cast.
It recorded the moments we spent as a CG for the past 4 months. 说长不长,说短不短.
Every scenes were so familiar, so recent.

Eversince the formation of the CG, it didn't stop growing.
To a point where effectiveness seemed to be diminishing. 20 is huge for a cell seriously speaking. It's time for multiplication. One becomes Two.
Two effective cells with 10 members each.
It's tough yet necessary.
We were once so dear, so warm, so enjoyable.
But when the Lord called upon us to move out of our comfort zone, we have to obey.
In Him we trust.

However, when the real moment comes, it's just hard to avoid the gloom.
We took turns to give thanks.
To God and to individuals in the circle.
Perhaps it's the last opportunity we could express our deep gratitude to our fellow CG mates.
I teared, even as a listener.
I wasn't the only one.
I guess we were just.....舍不得 lor.
[It reminded me the last days in my primary school actually =p]
Some tried to "suck" in their tears but gave up later.
Guess it's just not a time to hold back our emotions.

[see our ham bao faces?]

We sang our final worship song as a CG for the final time.
The last "Come Holy Spirit" sounded heavy.
With sniffing and sobbing.
Coz we knew we are gonna miss this.
Our weekly convenient get-togethers on Fridays have now become sweet memories.
I'm thankful to be in this memory.

所有的欢笑与泪水已成往事,回忆永留心中.

天下无不散之筵席, 天上我们依然会相聚.

[I realised we didn't have a complete 全家福. 咳...可惜.]

Singapore Dreaming

I was invited to a premiere charity gala movie last night.
SINGAPORE DREAMING

Arrived at Shaw Lido at 6.45pm.
There was a commotion in front of the popcorn vendor.
I stood at a corner suaku-edly, admiring at the glam outfit of the VIPs.
Gowns, shimmers, high heals, nice hairdo. Wa....气派十足.
Eyy...i'm a VIP also wor! After looking down at my dressing, i better remain at the corner. =p

At 7.15pm, finally can go in.
We were welcomed by a super passe Hokkien song and i thought i ended at some vintage 红包场.
[红包场 is like a nightclub with "famous" in-house singers and they will be rewarded with 红包 by the audience while they were singing. The 红包 are usually empty as they were only served as a friendly gesture when the audience thinks that the singer is performing well. It was a popular hangout place during the generation of our grandparents.]

The biggest cinema screen in Singapore they claimed.

The multi-coloured neon lights make it more like a 红包场. Oh the guy in white looks cute too. =p

1 last shot before lights-off!!

Tan Kheng Hua was the MC of the night and she gave a brief introduction of the movie.
Wa...Mr and Mrs President came too wor!
真赏脸!
Hmm...they can understand meh?

The film is a Singapore production. Extremely localised.
Hokkien conversations/songs, Taoist funeral, HDB flats, peeing in HDB lift, Singlish, 4D, Toto and....Merlion!! (eee....i saw that grossly tiled mini merlion again!! yucks!!)

The Story
It revolves around a small family, staying in a 3-room flat at Toa Payoh. Loh Poh Huat, the father of the family, obsessed in buying lottery. He has a daughter, married a honest and blockish man, pregnant with a child and is fed up with the favouritism shown by her parents towards her brother. Her brother, a US uni graduate, pampered by his parents, has big dreams but is too incapable to achieve them. One day, Huat finally won the awaited lottery and everyone believes the money will deliver them from the struggles. Unfortunately, Huat died abruptly from a heart attack and the family pitched into a battle of the lottery winnings.

This story reflected the common poignant agonies happening to Singaporean families.
See already also 心酸 lor.

No money struggle. Got money even more struggle.
It's a situation which i believe most Singaporeans can relate to, maybe less the lottery winning part.
They talked about dreams.
Other than those we see in our sleep, do we really have one?
Not mentioning abt pursuing our dream.
It's so common to hear of people giving up on their dreams in order to attain the so-called "quality of life".
Just so tempting.
Sad but true ya.

The cast.

Singapore Dreaming is the representing film of Singapore in the 19th Singapore International Film Festival happening now. The producers are currently deciding on the distributor for the commercialization of this film which is targeting to be in the box office in 2007.

Are you dreaming??

Grace is back!!

Princess Gracie is home!
We met up for a cosy chat with the rest of the girls.
She hasn't change a bit. Neither did we. (I think...)
Or should i say we "mature on par", hence we could hardly spot any disparity in our communication.
The session was really reminiscing.

So nice hor... =)

We Love to Worship You!

The worship team had a rehearsal at JP's place last Saturday evening.
We managed to squeeze 11 people, 1 drum set, 1 key board, 2 guitars and 1 bass into a room of a 4-rm flat.
Evidence as shown below.

Before the actual jamming, the vocalists practised their parts in the living room 1st.

Heh...Teck was like a 伴唱歌手 at some 民歌餐厅. 好有风土味哦! 呵呵...

非常Super Worship Band 正式开始!!

The hertz of sound produced in the tiny yet impressive soundproof room was unbelievable.
It was as though every instruments and vocalists were "fighting" to be heard.
But it's very cosy and very 爽! =)

It's just amazing when these people with hearts of worship come together.
Just for Him! =)

Corporate Prayer Meeting

I saw this on my desk when i got into office yesterday morning.

On the reverse side, it was printed:
Especially for: Bonny
"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. ~ Numbers 6:24-26"

It was an invitation for our 1st Corporate Prayer Meeting.

It was really corporate as it was held in our office premise.
For once, my visit to the auditorium was not for the purpose of work.
Much more purposeful than that!

Some of the bros and sis in christ (from the organisatio obviously) came together for a time of prayer and worship.
Irregardless of ranks, status and denominations.
Officer, Manager, Directors, Asst Chief Executive.
Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians.
All - stood as children before God's throne.

Initially, i was a lil disturbed.
Seeing a couple of colleagues whom i had bad encounters before.
It was not easy to reconcile.
At the same time, i got to be slightly more sensitive with the worshipping and praying style.
In the end, i decided to focus on Him.
Just that simple.

The meeting was structured.
Well, what's new?

We prayed for the organisation, for God to take authority.
For the believers to rise up and honour Him in this place.
A testimony was shared and our vision was presented.

I managed to pray with a fellow brother from another division.
I didn't know him before the session, except for a couple of smile exchanges in the lift.
However, i did hear some things about him from others.
Not very positive though.
This was our 1st real encounter and i decided to know him personally, instead of knowing him through the perception of others.
He shared on the difficulties he's facing in the organisation and i did likewise.

We ended by praying for each other.

The session ended with communion but unfortunately i got to rush off before that.
Looking forward to the next session! =)

As i was worshipping, i had a vision of my director (a pre-believer). worshipping the Lord in our midst. Wow...was that a prophecy? Amen to that! He is a good man and i hope he will receive God's blessing too.
Wait a minute...was that a hint to me? Aiyoh... =p

Voom voom voom....

I had excursion today!
SINGAPORE JET BOAT!

At 10.35am, LY and i arrived at the Merlion Park.
Out of nowhere, stood an independent counter with a guy in red t-shirt.
After welcoming us with some "standard" flowerish language, we were told to hang around till 11am.
We "strolled" under the BIG HOT sun!
Surrounding us were Japanese, Koreans, PRCs and Causacians.
They were enjoying themselves with Mr Merlion (or is it a Ms huh?).
So me decided to act like them.

(Actually Singapore quite nice hor?)

As we were aimlessly pacing up and down, we came across a mini Merlion.
The surface was covered with small squarish tiles.
If you remember, the tail of the Merlion is curvy.
How can the squarish tiles cover the curves?
Cannot lor!
So there were spaces in between the tiles at the tail and algae was accumulated.
It's gross man!
*hair stand*

11am!!!
Off we go!!!
We were led by 2 friendly and enthusiastic captains to the red jet.
The 9-metre long Australian-built jet boat has a capacity of 23 passengers, including crew.
On board, there were 4 crews (2 captains + 2 helpers) and...
2 passengers!!
Hahaha....
But their professionalism was not compromised.

It started slow and accelerated after going beyond the marina bay.
The jet is capable of going up to speeds of 65km/hr.
As we reached the water of East Coast, the thrill began.

Stunt No. 1 - 270-degree spins
The feeling was a lil like those swirling aeroplane where we played in fun fair during childhood days. But since we were in a jet boat and not an aeroplane, we were thus drenched. It was in fact quite fun and exciting albeit having to taste highly concentrated salt water. Approximately 6-8 spins were performed. I like! =)

Stunt No. 2 - Powerbrake stops
I actually didn't realised this was done. Initially i thought the motor wasn't working well. Hehehe.

Stunt No. 3 - Fish Tails
Basically he was just swirving left and right at a fast speed instead of going straight. Hmm meant to be a lil perk to the return journey i guess.

I wanted to bring my cammie along with the ride one...
Thank God i didn't.
It might have become a litter in the sea. =p

Overall, the experience was pretty cool.
Being the 1st of its kind in Singapore.
Worth trying (if you don't mind the
charges la).

Warning!!!
It's advisable to tie/bun up your hair if it's long.
Don't end up like me!
I let it 飘 freely coz i forgotten my clip.
In the end, i paid a big price with my SUPER entagled hair!
It's still a lil rough after a palm-full of conditioner. =(

You Are My Lord

Matthew 5:43-48 says...
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Leviticus 19:18 says...
"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD."

For You have said, I will obey and i seek resolution in you.
Let anger be resolved and may You grant peace which transcends beyond understanding.

Another night at CG

We had CG yesterday...as usual yet unusual.

Yien made her specialty for us! Tau Huey!!!
Yay!!!
Bonny excitedly welcomed her at the door! Haha...
Yien makes the best tau heuy on earth.
浓郁的黄豆香.
甜而不腻.
香滑可口.
入口即化.

Most importantly, plus the essence of love and commitment.
再加上longan的陪衬. 一级棒!
So we had our "tau huey break" even before the start of CG.
Simply can't wait.

After dessert, we had a good workout too.

It's a battle between the Girls & the Men (again).
Who say girls make the most noise?
Oh please! Cut the crap!
They were like the shouting at the top of their voices, with the lowest pitch lor!
As Mr 耍赖 No.1 was not around, Mr 耍赖 No.2 was in full action!
Trying all means to be 耍赖. Hah...
Scare the girls la. Pour cold water la.
You name it, he did it.

We are good man.
男女两队不甘示弱.
使劲浑身解数.
各不相让.
Finally, in order to start worship, the Girls decided to end this agony.
Persi performed the heroic act.
That's the end of the 2-feet structure.

We went on with worship and word discussion.
Anointing and frutiful.
It's always a new experience.

At the end of the session, i breathed a molecule of melancholy in the air.
Not sure if the rest felt it too or i could merely be too reactive.

My prayer goes to my brother and his family.
We'll be with him, so does our God.
Brother...Press in!
